This pendant is set with a Marquette-region Lake Superior agate sourced from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Lake Superior agates from this region are formed within ancient basalt systems and later redistributed through glacial movement across the Great Lakes. While geologically part of a broader Lake Superior agate system, Upper Peninsula material is less commonly encountered in mainstream lapidary circulation, and quality varies significantly between individual nodules.

Most material recovered from these field sources contains internal fractures, uneven banding, or quartz-heavy zones that limit its usability for cabochon cutting. Even within higher-grade material, each stone must be individually evaluated and shaped according to its internal structure, as no two nodules behave the same during cutting.

The cabochon in this pendant was selected for stability, balance, and natural pattern clarity after cutting from the original nodule form. It was then shaped and polished by hand and set into a fully fabricated sterling silver pendant.

The setting is constructed specifically for this stone, with all proportions built around its natural geometry.
