This ring features a chlorastrolite (Michigan greenstone) cabochon sourced from the Keweenaw Peninsula of Lake Superior, paired with a hand-carved morel mushroom sculpture integrated directly into the ring design.

Each morel element is individually carved and shaped by hand, requiring extensive detailing to achieve natural fungal structure at this scale. The carving process is slow and precise due to the organic geometry of the mushroom form and the need to maintain structural balance within a wearable setting.

The chlorastrolite itself is a rare material, and finding sections large enough and stable enough to cut into cabochons is increasingly difficult. Stones of this size often contain internal fractures and stress lines typical of natural formation under Lake Superior’s geological conditions. These characteristics require careful evaluation before cutting, as many pieces cannot be successfully finished without failure during shaping.

Each cabochon requires extended cutting time due to the stone’s variability in hardness and internal structure, often taking significant time to shape and polish without compromising integrity.

The dual morel composition reflects two naturally occurring color and form variations found in Upper Peninsula fungal growth—interpreted here as a sculptural study of regional ecology rather than decorative motif.

Every element is fabricated by hand and assembled to emphasize material origin, geological rarity, and biological form convergence.
