Offered here is approximately two pounds of genuine Lake Superior Chlorastrolite, commonly known as Michigan Greenstone—the official state gemstone of Michigan and one of the rarest gemstone materials found anywhere in North America.
This is not a parcel assembled from wholesale suppliers, estate sales, or purchased inventories. Every stone in this collection originated from years of personal effort along the shores of Lake Superior. Thousands of miles were driven. Countless hours were spent searching beaches after storms, studying wave action, sorting material, and processing rough stone in pursuit of the finest examples available.
The reality of Greenstone collecting is that quality material is extraordinarily difficult to obtain. Most collectors never see more than a few attractive specimens in a season. Recovering enough material to assemble a collection of this size requires years of dedication, experience, and persistence.
What makes Chlorastrolite special is its unmistakable cellular pattern, often referred to as the "turtleback" structure. When polished, these ancient volcanic gemstones reveal a mesmerizing network of interconnected cells unlike any other stone found on Earth. Each specimen is completely unique, formed over a billion years ago within the volcanic bedrock surrounding Lake Superior.
The estimated retail value of this material exceeds $10,000 when separated, graded, cut, polished, and sold individually. However, I am offering the entire collection intact for $5,000.
More significant than the price is the fact that this is my final Greenstone offering.
Once this collection is sold, I do not expect to offer another Greenstone lot of this size. Years of collecting have gone into assembling it, and replacing it would require an enormous investment of time that I simply do not intend to make again.
