This ring is built around a Grade A copper replacement agate sourced from nodules found in the Keweenaw Peninsula region of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
This material is considered high-grade due to its structural clarity and color definition, but even at this level it remains unpredictable to work with. Internal fractures and mixed mineral zones are common, and many stones do not survive the full cutting and shaping process into a stable cabochon.
The cabochon in this piece was selected after multiple evaluations and requires careful cutting due to natural internal stress patterns within the stone. Even stable material behaves inconsistently under the wheel, requiring slow, controlled shaping to prevent fracture.
The ring setting is built in 14k gold filigree, fully hand-formed and assembled. The filigree work alone required over 12 hours of detailed fabrication and finishing to achieve structural balance and visual flow around the stone.
This is not a mass-produced setting or pre-fabricated mount. The entire structure is built specifically for this stone and this stone alone, with all proportions determined by the cabochon’s natural geometry.
The result is a one-off statement piece combining high-grade regional material with extended hand fabrication in precious metal.
